Bucs to start QB Brian Griese Sunday

It now official.  Brian Griese will start Sunday against the Falcons in the Bucs season opener.

Bucs Head Coach Jon Gruden made the announcement following the afternoon practice.  Gruden said Garcia was not right, and wanted to give him a week off to heal up and get right.  When asked if this was just a one week thing, Gruden said this game is one of opportunity.  So, I would take that as saying if Griese does well, he will be the starting quarterback down the road.

Griese said he found out about the switch yesterday.  What one does not have to worry about when talking about #8 is his preparation.  He is one of the smartest quarterbacks in the game.  His knowledge and recognition on the field is top flight.  Plus, he is very comfortable in this offense.  So, there is no reason to sit back and say, heck this guy couldn’t beat out Kyle Orton or Rex Grossman in Chicago last year, what makes him so good here.  Different offense, more suitable office to Griese talents is the answer.

Also, a “gag order” was placed on Derrick Brooks, so he said, to even talk about his hamstring injury and status for this week against Sunday.  That order came from Gruden.  Brooks said he would be a gametime decision.  Warrick Dunn and Joey Galloway did not practice today.  Both are expected to practice tomorrow.

Wonder if the Bucs will stay 8 point favorites over the Falcons after this news?
