Sometimes on Movie Night when you just stay home and do the DVD thing with your girl, She might fall asleep next to you on the couch. That can be awesome and so you just stroke her hair and watch your movie.-Its like being alone, but not lonely--- If the Movie is really good and you think you should wake her up so she doesn't miss out , You probably shouldn't...

Juneathon 2010, End of Days

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The last few days of the Juneathon have been the toughest for me. My youngest has been sick and her illness combined with my sciatica seemed to suck any and all energy out of me. Her ailments included her high fevers and a nasty cough, therefore, a visit to the pool with the girls was out of the question and I was unable to swim for sciatica relief.

Day 25 – After my accidental two mile hike on the beach, I barely had the strength to move on Friday. After a few laps in the pool, I was toast.

Day 26 – Thankfully, I felt much better on Saturday and I spent most of the morning treading water and swimming in the Gulf. I loved every minute of it.

Day 27 – On Sunday, we had to pack up and head back home, I could only fit in some squats.

Day 28 – My youngest was sick and the only exercise I got was carrying loads of laundry up and down our stairs.

Day 29 – Emmalynn still had high fevers off and on. I did some yoga for sanity reasons.

Day 30 – On the last day of the Juneathon, we went to a pool party today. I had hoped to finally get my swim on again, but the outer bands of Hurricane Alex foiled any pool plans. I suffered through a set of 50 squats instead.

I had hoped to have done a better job for this year’s Juneathon, but at least I tried. Unfortunately, my feeble attempts won’t score me any Vibrams. Should I play the pregnancy card? Do you think I will I gain any sympathy for my sore sciatica?

Probably not.

Why We Love The Beach….

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

______________________________

The latest issue of Coastal Living has a short article on why people love the beach. It got us to thinking about why we love the beach…….

Soooo, outside of the usual reasons(the sea birds, the shells, etc….) we all love the beach, here are our’s……

Time stands still at the beach….

Rainy days are more bearable….. IMG_3642

Our best family memories are of the beach-

My earliest memories of the beach are Crystal Beach,on Lake Erie,Ontario,Canada. We would pack up the old DeSoto(a pink and black DeSoto, too!) and head across the border(my dad is Canadian,so we just assumed everyone crossed the border on weekends) and spend the day.My most vivid memories of those days are of my father lifting me up over the waves. In my 3 or 4 year old mind,I thought those waves were huge!

Later, every summer,we would spend two weeks on Cape Cod.That is where I learned, from my mother,to love shelling. At low tide,we would go looking for tidal pools. The absolute,jaw-dropping awe I felt the first time I saw a living starfish. And a sea urchin.Being taught to look and put back.Clamming at low tide with my dad.Yep-I can wield a clam scoop with the best of them! And fishing!Learning to work surf poles from my dad.

As a teenage, spending summers in Myrtle Beach! For a teen, that place rocks!I looked forward to it every year.If you have ever spent time there as a teen, you know what it’s like.

JonJ grew up on Madeira Beach,Florida.Boogie boarding and surfing, everyday, after school, was a way of life.Skipping school and heading to the east coast of Florida,if one of your friends heard that there were waves! After school, mowing lawns and working at MacDonald’s to save up the $35 to buy his first Oceanside surfboard.

Scarborough Disses Boehner

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Today must be beat on John Boehner day. Joe Scarborough accused Boehner of being lazy and more interested in bar hopping that legislation.

"I hear it on the Hill, I'm sure you hear it on the Hill all the time, it's not reported, but so many Republicans tell me this is a guy that is not the hardest worker in the world," said Scarborough on Wednesday's edition of Morning Joe. "Every Republican I talk to says John Boehner, by 5 or 6 o'clock at night, you can see him at bars. He is not a hard worker."

Negative Huffington Post Article On Meek Campaign

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Things just get worse for U.S. Senate candidate Kendrick Meek. The Huffington Post's Elyse Siegel writes that Meek is losing Democratic support.

Last month, Florida Republican Congressman Adam Putnam may have been right when he suggested that Crist is "a more powerful draw for Democratic votes" than Meek. And now, the Florida Democrat also has a bitter primary match-up against Greene on his hands.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has come out and stated its unwavering support for Meek's candidacy over that of Greene; however, when DSCC chair Sen. Bob Menendez was recently asked about the Crist factor, the New Jersey Democrat appeared to all but avoid discussing the matter.

The article also notes that President Barack Obama has not campaigned with Meek. The Pensacola photo-ops Obama did with Gov. Charlie Crist give the impression Obama is giving Crist an unofficial endorsement. Meek should have begged the White House to be with Obama in Pensacola.

Country Hip Hop Dancing

The cowboy hip hop is the dancing equivalent of you put your chocolate in my peanut butter. The only music appropriate is Snoop Dogg's and Willie's Nelson's My Medicine. One would have to be stoned to do this dance in public.

President Barack Obama, on House Minority leader John Boehner.

Rep. Boehner has an amazing talent for inserting his foot in his mouth.

Kendrick Meek Death Watch: Another Endorsement For Crist

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
The Florida Pipe Trades has endorsed Charlie Crist over Kendrick Meek.

"This is a bit unusual,'' said the union's international representative, John Lindstrom. "We stepped out on this one because we thought it was that important...We have probably 30-35 percent unemployment in our ranks, and we think Gov. Crist has a better handle on it and can feel our pain more than anyone else.''

Democratic endorsements and money are going Crist's and Jeff Greene's way. The Florida Democratic establishment will lament on how can people not understand Kendrick Meek is the 50s New York Yankees, 70s Pittsburgh Steelers and 80s Edmonton Oilers all rolled into one. Why if Meek ran in a Democratic primary against JFK --- Meek would have Kennedy begging for mercy. Meek is a shining superstar and his campaign will get hot any day now. The only problem is no one says when that magical day will appear. Will there be rainbows and unicorns?

How long is the Democratic establishment gonna sell this bullshit spin? Bill Clinton made a horrible mistake endorsing Meek. The establishment owes potential candidates who were forced out of the Senate race an apology. Florida Democrats will keep losing races if they run candidates like Kendrick Meek.

The Florida Pipe Trades did not endorse Meek because the union knows Meek will not be a United States Senator. The Meek campaign is sinking and special interest groups will give their money and endorsements to the candidate that have the best chance. Crist is the most popular politician in Florida. Greene can outspend any Senate candidate. Meek has no charisma or public speaking skills. So how exactly is Meek gonna become an overnight political sensation is a mystery.

Upton Not In Lineup Again, But Still Not Benched

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

[Update] Oh, it gets better…Joe Maddon says BJ Upton has a sore quad that he suffered last night. Yes, that’s right. Upton will not start tonight because he ran too hard last night.

[5:08pm] Via Joe Smith’s Twitter page, we learn that Ben Zobrist will once again play center field and will also be leading off. The only explanation that we can fathom is the ol’ day-after-a-non-benching-day-after-an-off-day extra rest.

Tonight’s full lineup…

  1. Zobrist cf
  2. Crawford lf
  3. Longoria 3b
  4. Pena 1b
  5. Joyce rf
  6. Jaso dh
  7. Rodriguez 2b
  8. Shoppach c
  9. Bartlett SS

John Boehner Doesn’t Know Policy

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Rachel Maddow has video of John Boehner not knowing policy. The examples Maddow cites are fantastic.

Boehner is against the deep water drilling moratorium but thinks there should be a pause in deep water drilling. Boehner is against a moratorium and supports the six month ban on deep water drilling.

Boehner expressed his disapproval of the moratorium banning drilling closer to the coastlines. Unfortunately for Boehner, the moratorium only affects deep water drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf. Boehner could have found this information by contacting the White House or from the Department of the Interior web site.

The U.S. Department of the Interior today issued a directive to oil and gas lessees and operators on the Outer Continental Shelf notifying them of requirements under the six month deepwater drilling moratorium that Secretary Salazar has ordered.

“The six month moratorium on deepwater drilling will provide time to implement new safety requirements and to allow the Presidential Commission to complete its work,” said Salazar. “Deepwater production from the Gulf of Mexico will continue subject to close oversight and safety requirements, but deepwater drilling operations must safely come to a halt. With the BP oil spill still growing in the Gulf, and investigations and reviews still underway, a six month pause in drilling is needed, appropriate, and prudent.”

I am not surprised Boehner is not a policy wonk. Long after many Republicans were ready to throw Donald Rumsfeld under the bus; Boehner gave this gem of a quote.

"Rumsfeld is the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years."

In a 2006 Hardball interview, Rep. John Boehner told Chris Matthews Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and links to al Qaeda. Boehner's cluelessness is both hysterical and scary.

Free-agent-to-be Kurtis Foster getting a cold shoulder from Steve Yzerman?

7 months ago: Tampa Bay Lightning's Kurtis Foster, left, celebrates his first-period goal with teammate Martin St. Louis during their 5-1 win over the New York Rangers in an NHL hockey game Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, in Tampa, Fla. (AP Photo/Mike Carlson)

[Updated 1 July by Cassie McClellan on behalf of John Fontana.]

Kurtis Foster has earned a special place in the hearts of some of the fans here in Tampa Bay.

The large, lumbering defenseman and his booming slapshot earned our respect and our admiration. Though it's easy to pick apart his defensive game, it's also easy to cite how we got a kick out of seeing him shatter panes of glass with his slap shot. That and contributing 42 points last season was also a plus.

Kurtis Foster also has not had the best of off-seasons. His infant daughter passed on only five days after her birth, shocking fans and the hockey world at the same time. New Lightning owner Jeffrey Vinik and assistant GM Tom Kurvers both attended the memorial service for Lila Foster...

But here we are a month and a half later, at the eve of free agency 2010 and Kurtis Foster has not had his contract renewed. Though he has said recently that he wants to remain in Tampa. Fresh comments indicate he's even willing to sign on the cheap to stay in town:

"I'd probably play in Tampa for less than I would to go somewhere else. ... It's where we want to be. My wife and I love it there."

And the fans love you here, Kurtis. But what about the new general manager?

Steve Yzerman's plate is full for a first time GM. Not only did he get into the job only a month ago, but he's searched and hired a head coach, operated his first NHL draft, has to assess talent and players currently on the Lightning roster, and now has to prepare for NHL free agency.

He's mentioned that Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis being re-signed is a priority. But when it comes to a bit guy like Foster? There seemed to be only silence.

"It's pretty frustrating," Foster said of the lack of tangible progress in his contract talks. "It's almost like they're pushing me to look another way."

Foster said his agent has had some contact with general manager Steve Yzerman, but no serious talks have taken place and no numbers have been exchanged. Foster, 28, would seem to have some value. He is coming off a career season in which he had eight goals and 42 points, including three goals and 29 points from the high slot on the power play, combining with forwards Steven Stamkos and Marty St. Louis as the core of the No. 1 unit.

-Tampa Bay Lightning's Foster disappointed with pace of contract talks

One aspect of things to be reminded of and to touch on with the Foster situation is that Fozzie has been the only right-handed shot on defense in the system.... Until Saturday. When the Lightning selected Brock Beukeboom, Radko Gudas, and Geoffrey Schemitsch, they secured the rights to three right-handed defensive shots. As BoltProspects.com writer Pete Chocquette pointed out to us in an earlier post:

Kurtis Foster has a very rare and particular gift: he's a righty point shot who can run your power play. They're as rare as hens teeth and 1000 times as valuable. That's why it was so foolish to trade Dan Boyle, and that's why if the Lightning don't re-sign Kurtis, they're going to have to find another righty shot defenseman or forward to play point on the power play...

So three righty shots, three potential new point men for the power play. Great. Good. Fine. Now what about the fact Yzerman has stressed that they are not going to rush anyone? It's what makes it seem foolish that Yzerman had seemingly alienated his NHL-ready, right-point shot on defense.

Despite Foster's misgivings, Yzerman later expressed a far different sentiment from what Foster had been suggesting:

A day after defenseman Kurtis Foster said he was disappointed with the lack of progress on a new contract, Yzerman said, "We definitely have interest in him coming back."

-Tampa Bay Lightning GM Yzerman comfortable with salary budget heading into free agency

A deal can still certainly be done, of course. It's just a matter of timing at this point, as well as how much the interest of other teams drives up Foster's price. And, of course, communication. Which there appears to be a lack of.

Tour de France Rides and Activities at 2 SWFBUD Shops

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
There are lots of big-time international sports going on -- the World Cup in South Africa and Wimbledon in Londson and that little bike race in July in France called the Tour de France.

I have been informed that two SWFBUD bike shops -- Just Ride Bicycles and Carrollwood Bicycle Emporium -- are having fun Tour-related rides and activities at their stores.

On Saturday July 3, Just Rude Bicycles is hosting a 56-mile road ride from the bike shop, located at 13431 Fishhawk Blvd. in Lithia. The ride will head to the Oasis store in Manatee County and return. The will starts 7 am with a 18-20 mph pace.

Just Ride Bicycles, owned by David and Jodi Luppino, will also have food and drinks at the shop all day on Saturday from 10 am-5 pm and invite you to watch the Tour. Lots of items are on sale. And those who do the ride get a free radio Shack waterbottle. Call David at 813-381-3907 for more info.

Over at Carrollwood Bicycle Emporium, owner Brian Eckman also has some fun Tour activities. On Sunday July 11, CBE is having a Tour ride at 7:30 am, with two loop options-- a 27-miler and a 42-miler. Both will be at an intermediate 18-19 mph pace.

The long route will go to Safety Harbor for a quick stop at Starbucks, then back.
After the ride, there will be lots of French-themed refreshments and snacks, with the Tour de France on both of the store's TVs at 14407B North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. Call Brian at CBE at 813-063-5765 for more info.

Scott Brown Protects the Big Banks

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Freshman Sen. Scott Brown refuses to vote for a tax on banks and hedge funds with over $50 billion in assets. The $19 billion would be used for emergency bailout money fund. That way taxpayers would not have to pay relief money to troubled banks. Brown says the emergency fund can be paid for by cuts to the budget. Brown doesn't say what should be cut or where we would find this money during a federal deficit. Democrats caved in and gave Brown what he wanted.

Small banks will see an increase in FDIC fees. The big banks and hedge funds will pay no new taxes. If the big banks and hedge funds get into trouble where will bailout money come from? If you guessed the taxpayer then you are correct. Brown didn't want to see the tax on the big banks and hedge funds because he didn't want these institutions to lose assets. Unfortunately, Brown feels taxpayers and small banks should pay for the mistakes of the major financial institutions. So much for the assets of hard working Americans.
